Bhagirathi River System ( Uttarakhandgk)


Bhagirathi River System -

The total length of Bhagirathi from Gangotri to Devprayag is 205 km. Bhagirathi is the second-longest river in the state of Uttarakhand.

The river Bhagirathi originates from a place called Gomukh near Gangotri Glacier in Uttarkashi district.

Gomukh

It has many tributaries from Gomukh to Uttarkashi.

* Kedarganga - Kedarganga is the first tributary of Bhagirathi. Which originates from Kedartala.

* Rudraganga - Rudraganga originates from the Rudragera glacier, the river forms the confluence with the Bhagirathi at Gangotri.

* Jad Ganga or Jahanvi River - This river originates from a place called Taknaur in Thangla Pass. This river forms a confluence with the Bhagirathi in the Bhairo Valley. It also has a Lanka Bridge.

* Milunganga - It is also a tributary of the Bhagirathi River.

* Siya Ganga - Sia Ganga forms the confluence with the Bhagirathi at a place called Jhala.

* Assi Ganga - Assi Ganga originates from Dodital, this river meets Bhagirathi at a place called Gangori.

* Bhilangana River - This river originates from the Khatling Glacier of Tehri. The Bhilangana River is the largest tributary of the Bhagirathi River.

• Ganesh Prayag - 

This area is in old Tehri, the ancient name of Tehri is also considered to be Ganesh Prayag.
 At this place, the confluence of the Bhagirathi and the Bhilangana River occurs.

The Bhilangana is the largest tributary of the Bhagirathi which originates from the Khatling Glacier.

The present Tehri Dam is built at the confluence of these rivers. After this, the Bhagirathi river will enter Devprayag.

* A tributary of Bhilangana - Dharmaganga, Medeganga, Balganga Dudhganga

* The Bhagirathi and Alaknanda combined current in Tehri Devprayag is known as Ganga and this confluence is also known as the confluence of Saas Bahu.

* In which Bhagirathi is called mother-in-law and Alaknanda is called Bahu.
