Yamuna River System

Yamuna River System - 

* Yamuna river originates from a glacier called Yamunotri in the western slope of Bandarpur mountain in Uttarkashi district. After flowing Uttarkashi Dehradun,  the Yamuna River enters outside the state of Uttarakhand, forms a border with Himachal Pradesh, later flows into Delhi, Mathura, Agra, and joins the Yamuna near Allahabad. Kumbh Mela is organized at the confluence of Ganga, Yamuna.

* Yamuna River is the largest tributary of the Ganges River, the Yamuna is also the largest tributary of India.




* Length of the Yamuna in the state - 136 km

* Major tributaries - Rishiganga, Hanumanganga, Krishnagadh, Banadgarh, Bhadrigadh, Kamalgarh Khutnugad, Barnigad, Mugaragarh, Gadolgarh, Pujyargarh, Ton, Asan etc.

* Krishnagadh - This is the first tributary of the Yamuna which meets the Yamuna at a place called Barkot.

* Murgarh - This river is the second tributary of Yamuna.

* Kamalgarh or Kamalganga - Kamalgarh meets the Yamuna in Uttarkashi at a place called Naugaon. After this Barnagarh is found in the Yamuna.

* Rikhnagarh - Meets Yamuna in Dehradun at a place called Lakhamandal.

* Bhadrigarh - Bhadripad confluence with the Yamuna at a place called Nainbag of Tehri.

* Algar - This river runs a little beyond the Yamuna to Nainbag and connects with Yamuna Bridge. Subsequently, the Yamuna river reaches Judan named Dehradun where construction work of the
Lakhwar dam project is going on.

Tons River Subsystem -

* Tons River Length - 148 km
The Tons River is the largest tributary of the Yamuna river which provides it with plenty of water.

* Supin river rises from the heavenly glacier on the northern slope of the Bandarpunch mountain in Uttarkashi. And the Rupin River originates from the Dodara Quar region of Himachal Pradesh, which meets at a place called Netwar in Uttarkashi. These two rivers are further known as Tamsa to some areas. And then known as the Tons River.
* The ancient name of Tons River is Tamsa.

* The Tons River and the Yamuna meet at Kalsi in Dehradun.
