Alaknanda River System


Alaknanda River System -

* It is the most water-rich river in the state

* It is the third long river in the state, it flows near Badrinath Dham.

* The total length of Alaknanda from Chamoli to Devprayag is 195 km. In Devprayag, Alaknanda has a confluence with Bhagirathi. And the combined stream of these two rivers is called Ganga.


Alaknanda River

* The Alaknanda River originates from a place called Alkapuri near Santopath in Chamoli district.

* From Chomali to Devprayag, many of its tributaries come here and form Sangam. These confluences also have their own religious significance.

* Keshav Prayag is the confluence of the rivers Alaknanda and Saraswati.

* The confluence of Alaknanda and Dhauliganga Vishnu Ganga takes place in Vishnuprayag.

* The confluence of Alaknanda Nandakani takes place in Nandprayag.

* The confluence of the rivers Alaknanda and Pinder takes place at Karnaprayag.

* The confluence of Alaknanda and Mandakini takes place in Rudraprayag.

* The confluence of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi takes place in Devprayag.

* In Devprayag, the combined stream of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi is called Ganga.

* Near the confluence is the famous Raghunath temple of Lord Rama.

Laxmanganga, Hemganga, Pushpavati, Balkhilya, Virhiganga, Patalganga, Garudganga, Atagad, Vasudhara Kanchanganga, Kshirganga, Rudraganga Sonadhara etc.

Ganga River - 

* Ganga Dev reaches a place called Beas Valley after Prayag and forms a confluence with the Nair River.

* Rishikesh is the confluence of the Ganges and the Chandra Bhaga.

* The Song River meets the Ganges at Raiwala, then the Ganges River enters the plains from Haridwar, and the Kumbh Mela is held at Haridwar.
